M

Jessica R.W. Weaver, LMHC, CASAC

y name is Jessye, and as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), I have been serving the Buffalo area for nearly a decade. I earned a Master of Science in Counseling from Canisius College in 2013 and have worked with many diverse populations in outpatient and inpatient settings.

As a therapist, my goal is to help individuals work through stressors and maladaptive coping skills to help them function to their fullest potential. Above all else, I help clients learn to be in a safe, fulfilling relationship with one’s self.

Something in particular I emphasize in treatment is the benefit of incorporating nature into the healing process, as studies continue to prove the benefits of immersing ourselves in the outdoors.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

n addition to my license, I also hold a CASAC (Credential Alcohol and Substance Abuse Counselor) designation through New York State, which allows me to treat the complex and continual process that is recovery from substance use. This also includes the advanced training to serve as an OASAS Clinical Screening and Assessment for the Impaired Driving Offender Provider.

Outside of substance abuse, my treatment focuses include: illness and aging struggles, chronic medical issues, grief and loss, changes of life, relationship or family issues, anger management / emotion regulation, anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and trauma.

VALUES

hold strongly to the notion that the best therapeutic results yield from incorporating loving kindness and guidance into the change process. Every individual deserves integrity, dignity and respect. By encouraging personal growth and development, individuals are capable of significant positive change. My own belief system is one of inclusivity, and I am an ally to people of color, the LGBTQ+ community and other often disenfranchised populations.

For individuals with little or no experience in therapy, the process can be daunting. A common question I am asked is "how long will this take?" Treatment is individualized so there is no one size fits all mold. Depending on the complexity of a situation, level of distress and other factors the frequency of appointments will vary. After an assessment at our initial session I will be able to offer you feedback as to recommended frequency of sessions and whether I am an appropriate clinician for your care. If I feel your needs are outside my scope of practice, I will offer you a referral to another clinician/agency who fits better. As much as I would like to work with everyone, all providers have some limitations and it is ethically imperative to meet the client's needs above all else.

The Jed Foundation website "What to Expect from Therapy (jedfoundation.org)" offers some helpful resources for those unfamiliar with therapy, and I encourage you to review the information or reach out directly to me with any further questions.
